LOWER ELEMENTARY CLUB DESCRIPTIONS

Community Service Club – Robyn Reynoso

This club will entail doing good deeds for others. Some examples may include: making crafts for a childrens hospital/senior citizen home, helping around the school, collecting cans for the homeless, writing letters/pictures to the serving soldiers, and learning how to be a model citizen and friend through various activities.

Comic Book Club (15 Members, Only Grade 1 and 2)- Megan McCluskey

In Comic Book Club students will be reading, writing, and designing their own comic books. Students are allowed to bring their own school and age appropriate comic books to share, and comics will also be provided. Skills built upon will include reading, writing, and creativity!

Board Game Club – Amanda Mathis

If you love playing board games, you will love this club!  We will have a variety of games available including the classic games that have been favorites for generations.  You can also bring your favorite board game to share with others.

Yoga Club – Rebecca Cluck

Yoga is an awesome activity that helps to increase strength and balance, as well as improve flexibility and concentration. Ms. Cluck (certified yoga instructor) will be teaching the primary yoga club where students are encouraged to have fun while learning and practicing yoga. Kids will learn poses through games, activities, music, literature and creative journal writing.

Experimenting with Science – Michelle Tischer

Experimenting with Science will enhance your child’s knowledge and understanding of the scientific process while inspiring his or her natural curiosity through discovery and exploration. Each week students will explore new methods of experimentation. Our investigations will show students how the mysteries of the natural world can be revealed through scientific inquiry.

Young Authors Club - Stacy Clark

This club is for K-2 students that want to engage their creative thinking processes, develop a greater understanding of the writing process, and work with peers to write and illustrate books from a variety of literary genres. Students will work collaboratively to create stories, participate in the editing process, and publish their work to share with family and friends. Come join us for a fun learning experience!

Lego Club – Sherri Mullins

Lego club is for students who love Lego's.  We will be playing with Lego's every club meeting.  They will be able to build different structures weekly or continue working on building from the last week.  This is just for fun...

Puzzle Club – Rachell Kastensmith

In the puzzle club our main focus will be to put together jigsaw puzzles.  This will help us to improve our problem solving skills, while having fun and being social!

Scrapbook Club – Dee Kincade

Come join us as we make scrapbook pages and a mini folding scrapbook.

Jeopardy Club – Jessica Miller

In this after school program we will be focusing on key skills in reading, math, science, and history in a fun, social, and educational manner.   The students will split into two groups and have a friendly competition against each other through the game Jeopardy.  They will keep track of their own points from each category; this will demonstrate their basic mathematical skills in addition and subtraction.  They will practice their reading skills by recognizing the description of the questions and stating the answer in the form of a question.  The questions will range from all levels and challenge the students weekly.  It will become a consistent review of all the material they are learning throughout the year in school.  The categories in Jeopardy will be language arts, math, science, history, and current events.  Our goal is to create a fun and exciting atmosphere where students can participate in an educational activity!

UPPER ELEMENTARY CLUB DESCRIPTIONS

Battle of the Books ($5 Club Fee, 12 Members) Juliana Bowden

Love reading? Come compete in Battle of the Books. Students will read books and come together to demonstrate their abilities and test their knowledge of the books they have read.

Debate Club – Desiree Guarino

Come practice your public speaking skills in Debate Club! In Debate Club, upper elementary students will learn the formal art of debate.  Students will have the opportunity to brainstorm topics of interest to them.  These will become our topics of debate each week.  We will spend the first meeting learning about the structure and format of a debate, and learning about debate vocabulary.  After these basics are mastered, students will hold a new debate each session.  The first half of the club meeting will be spent on planning in teams.  The second half will consist of the actual debate.  Student performance will be scored weekly and feedback will be provided. A winning team will be announced each week.  Come join the fun!

Paragon Newspaper Club – Susan Burres

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Paragon’s Newspaper Club is looking for student reporters in grades 3 – 5. Students will learn about technology and responsibility as they work together to produce a monthly school newspaper. Newspaper Club will meet in the computer lab once a week, but club members will need to devote some extra time to their club jobs. Jobs may include conducting interviews, taking pictures, drawing cartoons, or writing articles.

Basketball Club – Richard Jones

Overseen by our 5th Grade Science and Math Teacher, Mr. Jones, The basketball club is open to all (3rd) through 5th Graders. The club is for beginning through advanced player levels and focuses on basketball basics (dribbling, passing and shooting),  gradually moving up to more complicated game concepts such as rebounding, positioning, and offensive and defensive strategies.  Various passing, shooting, dribbling, rebounding, and other skill drills will be performed for the first half of each weekly meeting; with the latter half used for various basketball games such as horse, sign-out, 21, and 5 on 5 half and full court. Basketball Club will be at least once weekly (day(s) to be determined), and span from 3:15pm to 4:30pm.Students will meet Mr. Jones in room 209. Unless otherwise stated by Mr. Jones, students MUST report to room 209 FIRST (no showing up late "just to play").

Lego Robotic Club – Mr Sal

Lego Robotic Club  is a 45-minute after-school program that challenges students to imagine, design, create, and test robotic and structural design solutions using the new Mindstorms NXT robotic system. Through building and programming, students will be encouraged to build realistic robotic solutions to meaningful problems and to complete relevant missions.

Career Exploration – Sandra Lara

Do you want to become a doctor, lawyer or an engineer? In career exploration we will investigate various careers and research what it takes to be in one of these career fields.  You will also get the opportunity hear from people in the community who are currently in these career fields.
